Decorating Your Hunting Cabin

As someone who hunts to stock their freezer and not their Facebook status, I take pride in representing the non-stereotypical hunter. I know that hunting requires a great deal of respect for nature and not just a love of camouflage. So when it comes to displaying my trophies and representing my interests, I’ve realized that a little forethought goes a long way. We’ve all had to graduate from the poster-covered walls of our college dorm rooms for something more age appropriate. Your home and/or hunting cabin should be no different. Here are my tips for timeless and age-appropriate home decorations to showcase your favorite hobby: hunting.

Start With A Theme

This first step is where most people go wrong. Hunting is not the theme of your room. It should be used as an accent. I chose a lodge/cabin theme for my mancave, and fitted it with theme staples like leather furniture in warm tones, wooden tables with an industrial edge and an awesome accent chair from American Furniture Classics.

Add Your Accents

Framed art is an easy way to tie a room together. My go-to for all things nature is the Beckendorf Texas Art Online Gallery. I came across them on a trip through Fredericksburg and have purchased several prints online over the years. They’re affordable and can be purchased with or without a frame.

Mounted trophies are an obvious choice for accent pieces, but keep the size of the space you’re decorating in mind. A small room will feel even smaller with wall to wall mounts.
Try placing your mounted trophies:

• Above a fireplace
• On either side of a mounted television
• Placed evenly on an accent wall

Other accents you might be interested in are:

• A bar cart
• A few well-placed lamps
• An antler chandelier (best with tall ceilings)
• Throw pillows

Decorating my mancave didn’t happen overnight, but it was well worth the time. Now I have a comfortable space to display my trophies, entertain guests and relax after a day in the stand.
